Do what you’re drawn to, not what you think you’re supposed to be doing.
Carry something to capture thoughts with. Throughout the day you have tons of interesting thoughts. Go fishing, your paper is your net, not everything will be amazing, but every now and then, and more and more often with repetition, you’ll come up with something great.
It must feel good to work on something that will transform the planet for the better. It’s our sacred duty to help humanity. It can be a bad thing to question your happiness. If you find something that agrees with your personality and you pursue it, there is goodness in that. As long as you’re doing what you want to do, you’re good. Don’t do a bunch of things that you don’t want to do because you’re not sure that you can do what you really want to, because its hard or you might not make it. Don’t live that life of second guessing and not going after the one thing you really wanted, whatever it is. Find what that thing is. Do what you’re drawn to and not what you think you should be doing. You’ve got to start with carrying a notebook or something to write your thoughts down on. Occasionally you have great and interesting thoughts, and if you fish enough you’ll eventually catch something worth cooking and digesting. It may not happen every day, or even at all if you’re out of practice, but you’ll be amazed what starts to happen when you just show up and put in the time.
People have a real hard time accepting that other people are allowed to make different choices than their own. Life became immeasurably better when I stopped taking myself so seriously. You can’t use negativity as an excuse to do nothing. It’s easy to be just smart enough to do nothing. It takes another level of self understanding and awareness of your passions and weaknesses to decide to make a wave.
There’s only one way to go through this life. You can choose to have fun, to set your sails in a positive direction. People stop treating themselves as students and stop evolving, and wonder why they get stuck. There are people at levels of perfection that can drive to go on and push past where you ever considered you might.
You’ve got to learn to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. We all have modes of imitating our atmosphere and following patterns.
